The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation (The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation | The Georgia Trust) recently announced their 2025 Places in Peril list. Nine of the properties feature buildings, ours features . . . that’s correct railroad cars! We’re here to tell you this is a good thing for the museum. Some theorists think we’re circling the drain, and others . . . we won’t go there. If you look at the Georgia Trust’s site you’ll see this is all about awareness, support and preservation. We have a wonderful collection of history. Some in good shape and under cover, some under cover and wanting attention, some out in the elements as nature and railroads intended. Our aim with Places in Peril is to create awareness, energy, community, and philanthropy to help us protect and improve what we host on this campus for generations to come.

So, when you hear Places in Peril, we have items in peril of further deterioration leading to costlier renovations, not leading to the scrapper’s torch. If you, your company, or your foundation wants to get involved, there’s nothing better than getting involved on the ground floor with a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. You can make your donation here: Donate – Southeastern Railway Museum with a note: Places in Peril. If you wish to make a substantial donation or car sponsorship in the museum, please contact Kelley Cody-Grimm – kelleyc.grimm@train-museum.com Thank you.
