Hours of Operation

Current museum hours are: 

  • Thursday & Friday: 10am – 5pm
  • Saturday: 10am – 5pm
  • Sunday: 12pm – 5pm

Inclement Weather

For everyone’s safety, train rides will be canceled for extreme weather. This includes thunderstorms, excessive wind, and/or extremes of temperature (below 35 or above 90 degrees Fahrenheit). We don’t take canceling train rides lightly; however, we want to keep all our visitors and volunteers safe.

  • There is a group discount of $2 off of regular admission per person for groups of 12 or more.
  • Train rides will be complimentary with birthday parties, guided group tours, and certain special events.
  • The museum participates (and extends the benefits year-round) in the Blue Stars Museum program offering free admission to military members and their dependents. This free admission program is available to any bearer of a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), a DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID), or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card, which includes active duty U.S. military – Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, as well as activated members of the National Guard and Reserve, U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, NOAA Commissioned Corps – and up to five family members.
  • The museum extends the Blue Star program benefits to first responders with appropriate identification.

Know Before You Go

  • Please note that you must purchase museum admission to ride the train(s).
  • You are welcome to bring a picnic, take a break, and enjoy our multiple picnic locations.
  • Dress for the weather and walking.
  • Routine admission includes free parking, 35 acres of historic transportation history, and train rides when available based on weather, volunteer staffing, and antique equipment maintenance schedules.
  • Library passes are not valid for special events, educational programs, or classes.
  • Train rides are subject to volunteer crews and antique equipment available.
  • Trains marked optional on the schedule board (and generally not shown above) will operate only if visitor volumes support it.
  • Trains marked “Party” on the schedule board at the ticket office operate only on days with birthday parties scheduled and Party participants will have priority boarding.
  • Train ride schedules vary by day, visitor volume, and field trip activity.
  • During weekdays, the 11:30 and Noon trains will have priority boarding for field trip participants. These will be identified on the schedule board at the ticket office as well. Additional extra trains will be scheduled to accommodate anticipated visitor activity and we appreciate your patience.

Safety During Your Visit

  • The museum is a rail and transportation museum hosted in a former industrial site. There is a significant amount of walking involved in visiting the museum and there is a mixture of walking surfaces. For your safety, we recommend closed toe, flat, shoes and we recommend avoiding flip-flops and sandals.
  • We also ask that children refrain from running at all times.
  • Please do NOT place items on the rail. The uneven surfaces can cause items turn into projectiles and injure someone.
  • Please stay at least five feet away from the tracks when the train is moving.
  • Step over the rail, not on the rail to avoid falls.
  • Please do NOT venture outside the front fence. The mainline is owned and operated by Norfolk Southern Railway.
